Daniel and Annie Statham at RIBAxDBT Roundtable: How to transform architectural space into immersive cultural experience

On 21st March, Studio Founder Daniel Statham and Partner Annie Statham were invited to RIBA x DBT “Innovation, Technology, Sustainability – The integration of Architecture and the creative Industries” roundtable, discussing opportunities for collaboration in the creative industries and infrastructure with Rupert DANIELS, Director – Creative, Consumer, Sport and Education of DBT, Sohail SHAIKH, Deputy HM Trade Commissioner for China, Roger YAO, Head of Infrastructure, East China, Head of Environment China of DBT, Umi LYU, Head of Development China of RIBA, and RIBA China members and business partners.

During the forum, Daniel introduced his multidisciplinary approach of bridging architecture with the creative industries – music and arts, latest technological innovations, cultural IP development, and immersive experiential design, while pushing boundaries through bold, sustainable solutions.

Daniel highlighted two of the studio’s award-winning projects that exemplify such ethos. Future Car Park in CBD Hangzhou is a three-dimensional parking programme that combines automated parking technology with green public spaces, generating a capacity of 500 parking spaces for self-drive, autonomous, and flying vehicles, as well as entertainment facilities and roof gardens. Similarly, Cloud Bridge, 21st-century habitable bridge in Shanghai that presents a hyper-use of functionality and public realm, combines connectivity with the piazza of the future, merging ecological design with vibrant social programming including markets, arts, water sports, pop-up spaces, performances, retail, exhibitions, and health.

“By collaborating with artists, musicians, and engineers,” suggested Daniel, “the studio transforms architectural spaces into immersive cultural experiences.”

“This holistic approach positions the studio at the forefront of a new architectural paradigm—where technology, ecology, and cultural vibrancy intersect to shape the cities of tomorrow.”
